Once I was blind, but now

I see, he shouts at us,

at the polluted sky.

His face is rapt, his eyes

are two locked doors.

Outside the window, messages pile up,

congratulations, valentines,

spring bouquets with assurances

about the dancing feet of the dead

which we swore we had had enough of.

A day of glorious weather

is all it takes to corrupt us;

we betray the grief we wanted to keep

like a broken watch, we decide

the anger we thought was integrity

was, after all, only anger.
